LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. - On Tuesday, residents couldn't help but wonder about the source of the prevailing smoky conditions.

This is due to wildfires that are blazing thousands of miles away in the north.

The smoke from these distant wildfires is enshrouding our vicinity in a nebulous haze.

A dense curtain of smoke hangs over Lackawanna County, obscuring the vista in all directions from the Route 307 lookout point. Ordinarily, one could glimpse a significant portion of Scranton, but on this particular Tuesday, only a few buildings and houses around a mile away can be discerned.

The source of this smoke is wildfires currently raging in Quebec, Canada.

The smoke began to infiltrate our region early Tuesday afternoon.

By 2 p.m., the sky was entirely cloaked in smoke, casting an orange hue over the sun.

Residents were seen capturing images of what they described as an eerie, apocalyptic scene akin to a horror film.

Adam Zenker from Scranton comments, "It's quite startling. I first took notice when I saw the sun. It appeared red and rather unusual. Honestly, it's an unprecedented sight."

Expressing her astonishment to Newswatch 16, Gabriella DeCesare from Moscow states, "It's utterly unbelievable. I've never witnessed anything like this before. Scranton is totally shrouded in smoke, and it's diminishing the usual beauty of our surroundings."
